How Wide Does a 500 LED Curtain Cover?
The 22 metres is the total length of wire, not the width of the finished curtain - that is the number people most often misread. A light curtain is a horizontal top wire with vertical drop strands hanging from it, so the total is shared between the header and all the drops. As a working rule, expect the header to span roughly 3 metres with drops around 2 to 3 metres long. Measure the span you want to fill first, and if you are covering a wide frontage, plan on two sets rather than stretching one thin.
Can These Be Left Out in the Rain?
IP44 means protected against splashing water from any direction, so yes for normal outdoor use - rain, wind, dew. What IP44 does not mean is submersion or heavy pooling, so do not run the strand along the ground where water collects, and keep the control box and the plug end under cover. Use an outdoor-rated extension lead and an RCD-protected outlet. Bring them in at the end of the season rather than leaving them up all year, and they will last several Christmases instead of one.
What Do the 8 Light Patterns Actually Do?
Combination cycles through the others. In waves runs a smooth ripple along the strands. Sequential lights sections in order. Slow glow fades the whole set up and down gently. Chasing or flash runs a fast point of light along. Slow fade is a longer, softer version of the same. Twinkle or flash sparkles at random. Steady on is simply all lights on with no movement - and for a wedding, a dinner party or a window display, steady on is almost always the one you want. The control box remembers your last setting.
