Description
This is a foot hammock that hangs from the arms of an aircraft tray table on adjustable straps, so your feet rest in a sling rather than on the floor. It packs down to 20 x 5cm with a drawstring bag and costs $21.99. Flat, it measures 70 x 21.5 x 43cm, and the padding is memory foam.
The problem a foot hammock solves is specific to seated travel: in an economy seat your feet reach the floor but your knees end up above your hips, and after two or three hours that angle is what makes your lower back ache. A hammock lets you raise and support your feet at a height you choose, which changes the angle at the hip. It also has one practical advantage over an inflatable footrest - nothing sits on the floor, so nothing gets kicked, and it takes no footwell space at all.

Why Choose a Foot Hammock
-
Nothing on the floor - it takes no footwell space and cannot be kicked over or lost under the seat.
-
Adjustable height - the straps set the sling wherever suits your leg length.
-
Packs to 20 x 5cm - it goes in a handbag, not just a carry on.
-
Nothing to inflate - no blowing it up in a cramped seat and no worrying about punctures.
-
Works with the tray up or down - you do not have to choose between the hammock and eating.
How Does It Attach to the Seat in Front?
The straps loop over the two arms of the tray table on the seat back in front of you, and the sling hangs between them. Adjust the strap length until the sling sits where your feet naturally want to be. It takes under a minute and needs no tools. Because it hangs from the tray table rather than sitting on the floor, it comes down as easily as it goes up when the seatbelt sign comes on or you need to get out.
Will It Work on Every Aircraft?
Not necessarily, and it is worth managing expectations. It relies on the seat in front having a tray table with two exposed arms, which most economy seats do but some do not - premium cabins with tray tables stowed in the armrest, bulkhead and exit rows with no seat in front, and some newer slimline seats will not suit it. Airline policies on hanging accessories also vary and cabin crew have the final say. If you sit in bulkhead or exit rows by preference, an inflatable footrest that sits on the floor may suit you better.
What Else Can You Use It For?
Under a desk is the second most common use - hung from a desk frame or a drawer unit, it does the same job for a home office chair. It also works on long coach and train journeys where the seat in front has a suitable frame. Because it packs so small, plenty of people keep one in a work bag permanently rather than only taking it on trips.
Buyers are long haul flyers, shorter travellers whose feet do not sit comfortably on the floor, people with lower back discomfort on long journeys, and desk workers. It also sells as a practical gift for someone travelling overseas.
We stock two other travel footrests: the inflatable plane footrest that sits in the footwell, and a larger inflatable cushion for home and desk. Browse Home and Garden and Essentials for more.
Frequently Asked Questions
How small does it pack?
20 x 5cm in the supplied drawstring bag.
How much does it weigh?
The manufacturer states 60g, which we think is unlikely for a memory foam product of this size. We have chosen not to publish a weight rather than repeat a figure we cannot stand behind - contact us before ordering if it matters and we will weigh one.
Will it fit my seat?
It needs a seat in front with a tray table that has two exposed arms. Bulkhead rows, exit rows and some premium seats will not suit it.
Is it allowed on planes?
Policies vary by airline and cabin crew have final discretion. Check with your airline before travelling.
What weight will it hold?
No load rating is published. It is designed to support feet and lower legs only.
Can it be washed?
No washing instructions are supplied. Spot clean with a damp cloth and air dry.
Do you ship Australia wide?
Yes, to every state and territory including regional and remote addresses.
Fast Australian Shipping
We ship from Australia to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin, plus regional and remote addresses. Orders placed on a business day are picked and dispatched promptly, with tracking emailed to you as soon as the parcel leaves us.
