Description

This cookie press is a hand-operated biscuit maker that pushes dough through a shaped disc onto a tray, producing identical spritz biscuits in seconds. It comes with 20 shape discs and 4 icing tips, measures 21 x 15.5cm and weighs 365g, and is $44.08 at Lets Party. The barrel and mechanism are stainless steel with an ABS body, and the whole thing comes apart for washing.

Spritz biscuits are the kind of baking that looks far harder than it is. Rolling and cutting a tray of identical shapes by hand takes an hour and they still come out uneven; a press does the same tray in a few minutes with every biscuit the same thickness, which also means they bake evenly instead of some burning while others stay pale. The same tool pipes churros, cheese straws and biscuit dough for a decorated Christmas tin, which is why these get bought in November and used for years afterwards.

Why Choose a Cookie Press

  • Twenty shapes in one tool - flowers, stars, trees, hearts and geometric patterns from the same barrel, so a single tin can hold a dozen different biscuits.
  • Every biscuit the same - identical thickness means they bake evenly, which is the real reason pressed biscuits look professional.
  • Doubles as an icing gun - the four tips turn it into a piping tool for decorating what you just made.
  • Comes apart properly - the barrel, plunger and discs separate, so dough does not dry inside a mechanism you cannot reach.
  • Nothing to power or charge - a trigger and a spring, so there is no motor to fail and no cord on a floured bench.

How Does a Cookie Press Work?

You load soft dough into the barrel, screw on the disc with the shape you want, stand the press flat on a cold ungreased tray and pull the trigger once. That forces a measured amount of dough through the disc and leaves it stuck to the tray; you lift the press straight up and move to the next spot. The mechanism meters the same volume every time, which is where the consistency comes from. Discs swap in seconds, so you can change shape partway through a batch without emptying the barrel.

What Dough Works Best in a Cookie Press?

A proper spritz dough - high in butter, low in liquid, no raising agent and no chunks. That last point matters: anything with chocolate chips, nuts, oats or dried fruit will jam the disc, and no amount of pressure will fix it. The dough should be soft enough to squeeze but firm enough to hold a shape, roughly the consistency of thick buttercream. It must be at room temperature. Chilled dough is the single most common reason a press appears not to work, because cold butter makes the dough too stiff to extrude.

Why Won't My Cookies Stick to the Tray?

This is the classic frustration with a cookie press and it has three causes, all fixable. The tray is greased - pressed biscuits need a bare, ungreased metal tray, because dough will not grip a slippery surface and will lift away with the press. The tray is warm - use a completely cold tray, not one just out of the oven. Or the dough is too cold and stiff to release. Baking paper and silicone mats are also a problem here for the same reason as grease; for pressed biscuits specifically, bare metal is what works. Get those three right and the dough releases cleanly every time.

Buyers are typically home bakers doing Christmas biscuit tins, people who make large batches for school fetes and church stalls, anyone who has tried spritz biscuits by hand once and decided never again, and cooks who want a piping tool that does more than one job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it aluminium?
No, and the old title was wrong about this. The supplier's specification says ABS plastic and stainless steel, with no aluminium in the tool at all. We have corrected the title rather than repeat the error.

Is it dishwasher safe?
The supplier does not give a dishwasher rating. It is described as dismantling for soaking in soapy water, which is the method we would use - hot dishwasher cycles are hard on ABS.

Can I use shop-bought dough?
Only if it is a soft spritz-style dough with nothing chunky in it. Ready-rolled sheet dough is generally too firm.

How many biscuits per barrel?
The supplier does not state a barrel capacity. In practice you will reload several times for a large batch, which takes seconds.

Do the icing tips fit standard piping bags?
They are supplied to fit this press. The supplier makes no claim about compatibility with separate piping bags.

Can children use it?
The trigger needs a reasonable grip, so it suits older children with help. There is no blade or heat involved.

What are the 20 shapes?
The supplier does not list them individually. The set covers the usual spritz range - flowers, stars, trees, hearts, geometric bars and seasonal shapes.

Fast Australian Shipping

We dispatch from within Australia, so orders reach Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin quickly rather than waiting on overseas transit. Regional and remote addresses go through the standard Australia Post network.

Dimensions, materials and contents are as supplied by the manufacturer. Actual colour may vary slightly from screen. The previous title described this as aluminium; the specification says ABS and stainless steel and the title has been corrected accordingly.
