Description
These Number Balloons are 40cm gold foil digits priced at $1.99 each, available 0 through 9 and sold individually. They measure about 40cm deflated and roughly 30cm once inflated. Read the next section before ordering: because of their size and shape, these will generally not float even filled with helium.
We would rather lose a sale than have you buy a helium tank for balloons that sit on the floor. These are air-fill balloons, and used that way they are excellent - they hold their shape for a week, cost under two dollars a digit, and are the standard choice for taped-up wall displays and cake table backdrops. If you specifically want floating numbers, our 81cm rainbow foil numbers do float.

Why the Small Gold Numbers Are the Cheap Way to Do a Backdrop
-
Under $2 a digit - a full date across a wall costs less than one large floating number
-
Holds shape for days - air-filled foil does not sag the way a helium balloon does overnight
-
Sits flat against a wall - at 30cm they tape up neatly without bowing off the surface
-
Any number, any combination - buy the digits for the age, the date or the year
-
Classic gold - works with black, white, blush, navy and just about every party palette
Why Won't These Gold Numbers Float?
Physics, not a fault. A balloon floats when the lift from the helium inside exceeds the weight of the foil skin. At roughly 30cm inflated, a number shape holds a fairly small volume of gas relative to its surface area - all those corners and narrow strokes are skin without much gas behind them. The result is not enough lift. The larger 81cm numbers have far more volume for a proportionally similar skin, which is why those do float. Fill these with air and display them on a wall, a stick or a table.
How Do You Combine Numbers Into an Age?
Order one balloon per digit. A 5th birthday is one balloon; a 21st is a 2 and a 1; a 2026 date display is four. Inflate each one and tape or hang them side by side with a small gap, or thread them onto a length of ribbon or a balloon stick to keep spacing even. Most people mount them slightly overlapping at the same height, which reads more cleanly in photographs than perfectly spaced digits.
Air Fill or Helium for a 40cm Number?
Air, every time, for these. Use a straw or a hand pump into the self-sealing valve and fill until the shape is full but the seams are not straining. Under-inflating leaves creases at the corners; over-inflating splits the seam. Air-filled they will hold shape for a week or more, so you can decorate the day before rather than the morning of - which is the real advantage over latex.
Buyers are decorating birthday parties, milestone celebrations, engagement and hens parties, and anniversary or graduation displays. They are also popular for shop window date and price displays.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it float with helium?
Generally no. Because of the size and shape these are intended for air fill. Our 81cm foil numbers do float.
How many balloons do I get?
One, in the number you select. Order each digit separately.
How big is it once inflated?
About 30cm. The 40cm measurement is the flat, deflated size.
How do I inflate it?
A straw or a small hand pump into the self-sealing valve. Neither is included.
How long will it stay up?
Air-filled, typically a week or more indoors.
Can I reuse it?
Yes. Let the air out gently through the valve, store it flat, and refill next time.
Is it safe around children?
Children under 8 can choke or suffocate on uninflated or broken balloons. Adult supervision is required.
