How Do You Pour a Soy Candle in a Cube Mould?
Warm the mould slightly first - a cold silicone mould pulls heat out of the wax too fast and causes surface pitting and frosting. Pour at your wax manufacturer's recommended temperature, usually somewhere between 50 and 65 degrees for soy, and centre the wick before you pour rather than trying to reposition it afterwards. Fill in one steady pour, leave a little back, and top up once the surface sinks as it cools. Let it cool slowly at room temperature - the fridge causes cracking and a poor finish. Leave it a full 24 hours before unmoulding, and ideally a few days before burning.
Does the Temperature Range Really Matter?
It does, and it is why this mould is more useful than most. A range of -40 to 230 degrees means it goes in a freezer for setting jelly and mousse, in an oven for baking and fondant, and takes hot wax without deforming. Many craft moulds carry no rating at all, which means you cannot know whether hot wax will warp them. A stated range also tells you the silicone is a proper grade rather than an unspecified compound - it is one of the better signals of quality on a cheap mould.
