How Much Rain Cover Does a 1 Metre Projection Give?

One metre out from the wall is enough to keep a doorstep dry in normal rain and to shelter someone standing at the door, but it is not enough in driving rain that comes in at an angle. Think of it as cover for the door and the person using it, not a verandah. If you need to stand outside under it for long periods, or you are on an exposed elevation where rain arrives sideways, a deeper structure is a better choice. For the usual job - keeping the entry dry and stopping the door weathering - a metre does it.

Will a Clear Awning Yellow Over Time?

Polycarbonate does yellow with prolonged UV exposure, and how fast depends on the grade of sheet and whether it carries a UV protective layer. Six metres is more than one person can comfortably handle, so plan for two. Get the mounting line level first; an awning fixed even slightly out of level will pool water at one end.
