What Do the 900M-T Tip Numbers Mean?
The suffix after 900M-T tells you the shape. D means a chisel or screwdriver tip, and the number in front of it is the width of the flat face in millimetres — so 900M-T-1.6D is a 1.6mm chisel. C means a bevel or hoof tip, cut at an angle to give a broad contact area, with the number again giving the size in millimetres. B is a conical tip, I is a fine needle-point conical, and K is a knife tip. Once you know the code you can order any replacement in the series with confidence.
Will These Tips Fit My Soldering Iron?
These are 900M-T series tips. They fit the C1151 and C1152 handles and Hakko 907, 926, 928, 933, 937 and 941 soldering stations, plus the very large number of generic and clone irons built around the same 900M-T format. The quickest way to check your own iron is to pull the existing tip and compare it: 900M-T tips have a long hollow shank about 4.2cm in length that slides over the heating element and is held by a nut and sleeve. If your current tip looks like that and measures the same, this set will fit.
Which Tip Should You Reach For?
Use the widest tip the joint will accept. Heat transfer depends on how much metal is touching the work, so a wide chisel on a big pad is faster and gentler than a fine point struggling to deliver the same energy through a tiny contact area. Keep the fine needle and conical tips for genuinely small work — fine-pitch surface-mount pads, single-strand wires and repairs in cramped spaces. The bevel and knife tips come into their own for drag soldering multi-pin packages and for cleaning up bridges.
Making Your Tips Last
Tip life comes down to tinning. Keep a coat of solder on the working face whenever the iron is hot, wipe on a damp sponge or brass wool immediately before use rather than leaving the tip bare, and re-tin before you park the iron or switch it off. Avoid running the station hotter than the job needs, since excess heat accelerates oxidation, and never file or sand a plated tip — once the plating is through, the tip stops taking solder for good.
