Description

This handwriting practice book set contains four reusable copybooks with grooved pages that guide a child's pen along the shape of each letter or number, plus a pen, five spare refills and a grip. The ink fades on its own so every page can be used again. Sets are $26.57 for Pattern A and $22.37 for Pattern B at Lets Party. Books measure 13 x 19cm.

The reason grooved copybooks work is that they solve a problem worksheets do not. A printed dotted letter tells a child what the shape looks like but not how to make it, so they trace it in whatever order they like and build a habit that has to be undone later. A groove physically holds the pen on the path, so the hand learns the movement rather than just the outcome. And because the ink disappears, a child who has a bad afternoon can start the same page again tomorrow instead of turning to a fresh sheet and feeling like they used one up.

Why Choose Grooved Copybooks

  • The groove guides the hand - the pen is held on the correct path, so a child learns the stroke order rather than just copying a shape.
  • Genuinely reusable - the ink fades by itself, so the same four books last far longer than a stack of worksheets.
  • Refills included - five spare refills come in the set, so it does not stop working the first time the pen runs out.
  • Grip supplied - the moulded penholder encourages a tripod grip, which is the habit that is hardest to correct later.
  • Four subjects, not one - letters, numbers, maths and drawing in the same set, so it stays useful as a child moves on.

How Do Grooved Handwriting Books Work?

Each page has the letter or number pressed into the paper as a shallow channel. The pen tip drops into that channel and follows it, so the child feels the shape as much as sees it. That matters for young writers because handwriting is a motor skill before it is a visual one - the hand has to learn a sequence of movements, and a groove teaches the sequence directly. The practical effect most parents notice is that a child who wanders off the line on ordinary paper stays on it here, which is encouraging early on when discouragement is the main risk.

Does the Ink Really Disappear?

Yes, on its own, over a period of roughly minutes to a couple of hours depending on temperature and how heavily the page was written. Nothing is wiped or erased. That has two consequences worth knowing. The first is positive: the books are reusable indefinitely as long as refills last. The second is that finished work does not stay finished, so if you want to keep a page as a record of progress, photograph it before it fades. Some children find the fading itself motivating and check back on it; others are disappointed the first time, so it is worth explaining upfront.

What Is the Difference Between Pattern A and Pattern B?

Very little, and the difference is smaller than the price gap suggests. Both sets contain four books covering maths, numbers and the alphabet. The fourth book differs: Pattern A includes drawing, Pattern B includes fine arts. Everything else in the set is the same, including the pen, refills and grip. Pattern B is $22.37 and Pattern A is $26.57, a $4.20 difference we cannot account for from the supplier's own description. If you have no preference, Pattern B is the better value. If you want to see the actual page content of each before deciding, message us and we will send photographs.

Buyers are typically parents of preschool and early primary children, grandparents looking for a present that is not a toy, home educators, and occupational therapists and teachers who use grooved books for children who need extra handwriting support.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size are the books?
13 x 19cm. The supplier's copy also calls them A5, which they are not - A5 is 14.8 x 21cm. We have gone with the measured figure.

How long does a refill last?
The supplier does not state it. Five refills come with a set and ten with the replacement pen pack, which suggests they are consumed steadily rather than lasting for ever.

Can I buy refills separately?
Yes - the "Replacement Pen Set only" option is one pen, ten refills and a grip for $8.30, with no books.

What age is it for?
The supplier describes it as a preschool method. In practice grooved books suit roughly ages 3 to 7, and older children who need handwriting support.

Is the ink washable if it gets on clothes?
The supplier gives no guidance on this, so treat it as you would any ballpoint - deal with it promptly and do not assume it will lift.

Are the books in English?
The alphabet and number books cover the English alphabet and Arabic numerals.

Can the pen be used on ordinary paper?
It will write, but the ink is designed to fade, so it is not suitable for anything you want to keep.

Fast Australian Shipping

We ship from within Australia, so orders reach Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin quickly rather than waiting on overseas transit. Regional and remote addresses go through the standard Australia Post network.

Book dimensions and contents are as supplied by the manufacturer. The supplier's description also refers to these as A5, which does not match the stated 13 x 19cm; we have used the measurement. Small parts - pen refills - are not suitable for children under 3 and should be supervised.
