Description

This O Ring Kit holds 419 rubber seals across 32 metric sizes for $31.99, from 3mm outer diameter up to 50mm, supplied in a red compartment case. The three cord thicknesses are 1.5mm, 2.5mm and 3.5mm.

The point of an assortment is that O-rings fail at the worst moment and are almost never the size you happen to have. A dripping tap on a Sunday, a leaking pump fitting mid-job, a seal on a coffee machine - each of those is a five minute repair if you own the right ring and a trip to a supplier if you do not.

Why an Assortment Rather Than Singles

  • 32 sizes on hand - the odds are good the one you need is in the box
  • Multiples of each - 10 to 23 of every size, so a mistake is not a problem
  • Compartmented case - sizes stay separated, which is the difference between a kit and a bag of rings
  • Three cord thicknesses - the same diameter in a different thickness seals a different groove
  • Cheaper than two service calls - a dripping tap fixed twice pays for the box

How Do You Find the Right O-Ring Size?

Measure two things, not one: the inner or outer diameter, and the cord thickness - the diameter of the rubber itself. Both must match, because a ring with the right diameter but the wrong thickness will either not seal or will not fit the groove. The most reliable method is to measure the groove it sits in rather than the old ring, since a failed ring is usually stretched, compressed or swollen and no longer its original size. A vernier caliper makes this easy; a ruler and good light will do at a pinch.

Will Rubber O-Rings Handle Fuel or Oil?

Depends on the rubber, and this is where generic assortment kits need care. Standard nitrile handles oil and fuel reasonably; EPDM handles water and brake fluid but is destroyed by petroleum; silicone handles heat but not much else mechanically. Our supplier describes these only as rubber without naming the compound, so treat them as general purpose. They are fine for water, taps, air and light-duty sealing. For fuel systems, brake systems, or anything running hot or under real pressure, buy a ring in a specified compound from a seal supplier.

Why Do O-Rings Fail?

Most often from age hardening and compression set - the rubber loses elasticity, stays squashed in the shape of the groove, and no longer springs back to seal. Heat accelerates it, as does chemical incompatibility. Other common causes are pinching during installation, a nicked or dirty groove, and over-tightening a fitting so the ring is extruded out of its seat. When you fit a replacement, clean the groove, put a smear of appropriate lubricant on the ring, and do not overtighten.

Buyers are repairing dripping taps and plumbing fittings, servicing pumps and pressure washers, doing automotive and small engine work, and keeping a general repair kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many rings and how many sizes?
419 rings across 32 sizes.

What size range?
3mm to 50mm diameter, in 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5mm cord thicknesses.

What rubber are they?
The supplier states only rubber without naming the compound. Treat them as general purpose.

Can I use them on fuel lines?
We would not recommend it. Use a ring in a specified compound from a seal supplier for fuel, brake or high-temperature work.

Are they metric?
Yes.

Is a case included?
Yes, a compartmented red plastic case.

Will they fit standard taps?
Common tap sizes fall within this range, but measure the groove to be sure.

Fast Australian Shipping

Dispatched from Australia to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin, with regional and remote addresses served through the standard Australia Post network.

Measurements are approximate. Screen colours vary between devices. The rubber compound is not specified by the supplier - do not use these for fuel, brake, high-pressure or high-temperature applications, where a seal of a known specified material is required.
