Description

This Heat Shrink Tubing kit holds 530 pieces for $20.99, across 8 sizes from 1.5mm to 10mm and 5 colours, supplied in a compartment box. Every piece is 45mm long. It is 2:1 polyolefin, flame retardant, and rated from -55C to +125C.

The colour range is the reason to choose this kit over a plain black one. Black, yellow, green, red and blue lets you code a loom - red for positive, black for negative, colours for signal runs - which turns a repair someone else has to trace later into one that reads at a glance.

Why This Kit Over a Single Size

  • Five colours - colour-code a loom so the next person can read it
  • Eight sizes - one box covers signal wire through to battery cable
  • Weighted to small sizes - 240 of the 530 are 1.5mm and 2mm, which is what gets used
  • Boxed and sorted - not a bag you have to tip out to find a size
  • Flame retardant - the right property for anything near an engine bay or a supply

What Does a 2:1 Ratio Mean?

The tubing shrinks to half its supplied diameter when fully heated. A 6mm piece closes down to about 3mm. That sets the selection rule: pick a size that slides over the joint and the connector easily, but whose shrunk diameter is smaller than the wire it must grip. Too large and it will not close tight even fully heated; too small and it will not go over the joint in the first place.

How Do You Shrink It Without a Heat Gun?

A heat gun is the right tool, but a hair dryer on its hottest setting works for the smaller sizes, and the barrel of a soldering iron held close without touching will do a single joint. A lighter works but is the worst option - direct flame scorches and weakens the tubing, and it will char rather than shrink if you let it touch. Whatever you use, keep the heat moving and work from the centre outward so air is pushed out rather than trapped.

Which Size Do You Need?

Measure across the widest point the tube must pass over - usually the crimped barrel of a terminal, not the wire itself - and choose a supplied diameter comfortably above it, then check the shrunk diameter is below the wire diameter. For typical automotive and hobby wiring, 2mm and 3mm cover most single conductors, 4mm and 5mm suit small connectors, and 8mm and 10mm are for bundles and heavier cable.

Buyers are doing automotive and marine wiring repairs, electronics and hobby projects, caravan and trailer work, and general cable insulation and strain relief.

Our 150 piece kit goes up to 13mm for larger cable. See Tools & Hardware and Automotive.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pieces and what sizes?
530 pieces across 8 sizes from 1.5mm to 10mm.

How long is each piece?
45mm.

What temperature does it shrink at?
It starts at 84C and shrinks fully at 120C or above.

Is it flame retardant?
Yes.

Can I cut it shorter?
Yes, with scissors or a sharp blade.

How does it compare with the 150 piece kit?
This one has more colours and more pieces; the 150 kit goes larger (to 13mm) and has longer 100mm pieces.

Is it adhesive lined?
No. This is plain wall tubing, not glue lined.

Fast Australian Shipping

Measurements are approximate. Screen colours vary between devices. Heat guns and soldering irons cause burns - take care and let work cool before handling. All work on fixed wiring must be carried out by a licensed electrician.
