Description

This guitar strap is a 4.5cm wide black nylon strap with a plastic slider buckle for adjustment, and it fits acoustic, electric and bass guitars. It is $15.00 at Lets Party. It is a plain working strap rather than a decorative one - nylon webbing, one slider, no padding and no hardware to fail.

A strap is the piece of gear players think about least and replace most often. The one that came with the guitar is usually a thin offcut of webbing that digs into your shoulder after twenty minutes, and the moment it fails is almost always the moment the guitar is at chest height. A 4.5cm nylon strap costs less than a set of strings and fixes the two things that actually matter - it spreads the weight over a wider band of shoulder, and it holds its adjustment instead of creeping longer through a set.

Why Choose This Guitar Strap

  • 4.5cm width - wide enough to spread the weight of a solid body across the shoulder instead of concentrating it in a narrow line.
  • Nylon webbing - it does not stretch out of shape the way woven cotton does, and it does not crack the way cheap vinyl does.
  • One moving part - a single slider buckle is the whole adjustment mechanism, so there is very little that can break mid-set.
  • Plain black - it disappears against most clothing and suits any guitar finish, which matters more on stage than a pattern does.
  • Cheap enough to keep spares - at $15.00 you can leave one permanently on each guitar rather than swapping a single strap between them.

How Long Should a Guitar Strap Be?

The honest answer is that it depends on where you want the guitar to sit, and that is a stylistic choice more than a technical one. Classical and jazz players tend to set the guitar high, around the middle of the ribcage, because it puts the fretting hand in a comfortable position for complex chord shapes. Rock and blues players usually set it lower. The practical test is this: play a barre chord at the first fret while standing. If your fretting wrist has to bend sharply to reach it, the guitar is too low for that style of playing, whatever it looks like. Set the strap so the guitar sits at roughly the same height standing as it does when you play sitting down, then adjust from there.

Will This Strap Fit an Acoustic Guitar With Only One Strap Button?

This is the question that catches most acoustic players out, and it deserves a straight answer. Many acoustic guitars have a strap button on the base of the body but nothing at the neck end. This strap has button holes at both ends, so on a one-button acoustic you have three options. You can tie the top end to the headstock behind the nut using a bootlace or a purpose-made strap tie, which is the traditional method and costs nothing. You can have a luthier fit a second strap button at the heel of the neck, which is a small job. Or you can buy a strap tie lace, which we do not include with this strap. If your acoustic already has two buttons, none of this applies and the strap fits directly.

Is a Wider Guitar Strap More Comfortable?

Generally yes, and the physics is simple - the same weight spread over a wider band means less pressure at any one point on your shoulder. At 4.5cm this strap sits in the standard range rather than the extra-wide range. That is comfortable for most guitars over a normal playing session. If you play a genuinely heavy instrument, a Les Paul style solid body or a heavy bass, for two or three hours at a stretch, you may want to go wider still or add padding. Width is only half of it though. A strap that slips and needs constant readjustment will annoy you far more than a narrow one that stays put.

Buyers are typically players replacing the thin strap that came with a starter pack, people who have just bought a second guitar and want one strap permanently on each, teachers and school music departments buying several at once, and anyone whose old strap has started slipping through its buckle mid-song.

If you are kitting out a guitar, our mixed gauge guitar picks let you find the plectrum thickness that suits your playing, and our folding A-frame guitar stand keeps the instrument off the floor between songs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What length does it adjust between?
The supplier has not given us the adjustment range, and we are not going to invent numbers for the one specification that decides whether a strap suits you. If you need the exact minimum and maximum before ordering, message us and we will ask them.

Is it padded?
No. It is plain nylon webbing with no shoulder pad. For a light acoustic or a short set that is fine; for a heavy solid body over a long night, a padded strap is the more comfortable option.

Will it fit a bass?
Yes, the fittings are the same. Bear in mind that basses are heavier than guitars, so an unpadded 4.5cm strap will be noticeable over a long set.

Does it come with strap locks?
No. If your guitar has ever slipped off a strap button, strap locks are a worthwhile separate purchase and they fit any strap including this one.

Will the plastic slider hold?
The slider is the standard mechanism used on the large majority of nylon straps. If you want metal hardware rather than plastic, that is a different class of strap and worth saying so before you order.

Can I use it on a ukulele?
Only if the ukulele has strap buttons fitted, which most do not from the factory. Ukulele players more often use a strap that hooks into the sound hole.

Is it available in other colours?
This listing is black only. Message us if you want something else and we will see what the supplier holds.
