How Does a Price Tag Gun Work?
A clip of plastic barbs loads into the side of the gun. Each barb is a thin filament with a crossbar at each end. You push the hollow needle through the garment - ideally through a seam or a care label rather than the fabric face - and squeeze the trigger, which drives one barb through the needle. The crossbar opens out on the far side and the tag is held between the two ends. Pulling the trigger also advances the next barb. To remove a tag you snip the filament with scissors and pull the barb out.
What Is the Difference Between Fine and Standard Barbs?
Barbs come in two families and it matters for what you can tag. Standard barbs, which this gun uses and which are supplied with it, suit most woven and knitted clothing, denim, cotton and heavier fabrics. Fine barbs are thinner and are used with a finer needle for delicate materials - silk, lingerie, fine knitwear - where a standard needle would leave a visible hole. Where Should You Put the Tag So It Doesn't Damage the Garment?
Through a seam, a care label or the wash-instruction tab - never through the middle of the fabric. A seam has several layers and the barb passes between threads rather than breaking them, so when the tag comes off there is no visible mark. Going through the face of a garment leaves a small hole, and on tightly woven or delicate fabric that hole does not close. For knitwear, go through the inside seam. For anything you cannot pierce safely - leather, coated fabric, fine silk - use a string tag or a hang tag on the existing label loop instead. The rule that experienced retailers follow is simple: if in doubt, do not shoot it.
