Description

This grey laundry bag is made from 210D nylon and measures 36 x 24 inches, roughly 91 x 61cm, with a drawstring closure, priced at $12.99 with fast Australian shipping. It folds down to almost nothing when empty, holds a full load of dirty clothes when it is not, and does not tear or lose its shape the way a supermarket bag does after two trips.

The problem it solves is unglamorous but constant. Dirty clothes have to go somewhere between the floor and the machine, and in a small flat, a share house, a caravan or a hotel room there is no basket-shaped space for a basket. A drawstring bag hangs on a hook, sits in the bottom of a wardrobe, goes in the boot, and folds flat into a suitcase corner on the way out. It is also the difference between carrying an armful of washing down two flights of stairs to the laundromat and carrying one thing.

Why Choose This Nylon Laundry Bag

  • Takes up no room empty - folds into a pocket rather than occupying floor space like a basket
  • 210D nylon, not woven plastic - it holds its shape under a full load instead of stretching and splitting
  • Drawstring keeps it shut - nothing escapes on the stairs, in the boot or in a shared laundry
  • Big enough for a full machine load - one trip rather than three at 91 x 61cm
  • Not only for laundry - sports kit, camping gear, spare bedding, toys and general storage all work

How Much Washing Does a 91 x 61cm Laundry Bag Hold?

Comfortably a full domestic machine load and then some - in practical terms, roughly a week of laundry for one person, or a couple of days for a family. Nylon has very little stretch, so unlike a woven plastic bag it will not keep expanding until the seams give out. The useful limit is what you can carry rather than what the bag can hold: filled to the top with wet towels it becomes genuinely heavy, and the drawstring is a handle, not a shoulder strap.

Can You Put a Nylon Laundry Bag in the Washing Machine?

The empty bag itself can generally go through a cold gentle cycle and be hung to dry, which is worth doing every few weeks. What it is not is a mesh wash bag - you do not put it in the machine full of clothes and expect them to wash. Nylon is not perforated, so water and detergent cannot circulate through it. Tip the contents into the drum and put the bag aside, or wash it separately on its own.

What Makes 210D Nylon Different From a Cotton Laundry Bag?

The D is denier, a measure of yarn thickness, and 210D is the same weight of fabric used for lightweight packs and stuff sacks. Compared with a cotton bag it is lighter, folds far smaller, does not absorb moisture from damp towels, and dries quickly if it does get wet. Cotton breathes better, which matters if damp clothes will sit for days. For travel, the laundromat run and general storage, nylon wins on packability and durability.

Buyers are typically students and share house residents with no space for a hamper, people who take washing to a laundromat, travellers separating dirty clothes from clean inside a suitcase, caravanners and campers, and parents using them for sports kit and swimming gear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it stand up on its own?
Not when empty - it is a soft bag, not a rigid hamper. Part filled it holds a rough shape, and it is designed to hang or lean rather than stand.

Can I hang it on a hook?
Yes. The drawstring loops over a hook or a door handle, which is how most people use it in a small bathroom or wardrobe.

Is the nylon waterproof?
It is water resistant rather than waterproof, and the drawstring opening is not sealed. Wet towels are fine for a short trip, not for overnight storage.

Will it smell if clothes sit in it?
Nylon does not breathe like cotton, so damp clothes left for days will get musty. Let wet items dry before they go in.

Can I put it in the dryer?
No. Air dry it. Heat is what damages lightweight nylon and its coatings.

Is it strong enough for gear other than clothes?
Yes, within reason. It is used for camping gear, sports kit and bedding. Sharp or heavy items are what will eventually put a hole in it.

What is the exact capacity in litres?
The supplier states dimensions rather than a litre rating, so we quote the 91 x 61cm size rather than a volume figure.

Not a mesh wash bag - do not machine wash clothing inside this bag. Water resistant, not waterproof. Air dry only; do not tumble dry. Dimensions are supplier-stated and may vary slightly, and colour may differ a little between screens and batches.
