Description
This Head Magnifier gives you 1.0x to 6.0x magnification hands free, priced at $43.99. Five interchangeable lens plates cover 1.0x, 1.5x, 2.0x, 2.5x and 3.5x on their own, and combining two plates reaches 3.0x, 4.0x, 4.5x, 5.0x, 5.5x and 6.0x. The detachable 2 LED lamp lifts off and works as a handheld torch, and the three AAA batteries are included.
Hands free is the whole point. A handheld loupe means one hand is gone before you have picked up a tool, which rules out soldering, watch repair, model painting and anything else needing two hands and a steady view.

Why This One Rather Than a Loupe
-
Both hands free - you can solder, cut, paint or sew while magnified
-
Eleven effective magnifications - from five lens plates, by combining pairs
-
Light comes with it - magnification without light just gives you a bigger dim view
-
Lamp detaches - it works as an ordinary torch when you are not wearing the visor
-
Batteries included - genuinely usable out of the box
How Do You Get Magnifications Above 3.5x?
By stacking two lens plates. The five supplied plates give 1.0x through 3.5x individually, and the visor takes two at once - combining them multiplies the effect and yields the 3.0x to 6.0x range. That is why the specification lists eleven magnifications from five lenses. In practice most people find one or two combinations that suit their work and leave them fitted.
What Working Distance Suits Soldering?
Look at the table above and work backwards from how you sit. Soldering usually wants your hands 200 to 250mm from your eyes, which points to 1.5x or 2.0x. Going to 6.0x sounds better until you realise it puts the work 60 to 85mm from your face - too close to get a soldering iron in, and close enough that you will feel the heat. High magnification suits inspection, not work: use 5.0x and 6.0x to check a joint, then drop back to 2.0x to make the next one.
Can You Wear It Over Glasses?
Generally yes - the visor sits forward of the face on an adjustable headband and most prescription frames fit underneath. Expect the fit to be a little tighter and the working distances above to shift slightly, since your glasses change the optical path. If you wear reading glasses specifically, try it both with and without: at lower magnifications the visor may do the job on its own.
Buyers are doing electronics and soldering, watch and jewellery repair, model making and miniature painting, sewing and craft, and using it as a reading aid.
Pairs with our soldering iron kit. See Tools & Hardware, Craft & Sewing, or Art Supplies.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many lenses come with it?
Five plates, giving eleven magnifications when combined.
Are batteries included?
Yes, 3 x AAA.
Does the light come off?
Yes, it detaches and works as a handheld torch.
Will it fit over my glasses?
Usually yes. The headband adjusts by a rotary knob.
What magnification should I start with?
1.5x or 2.0x for hands-on work; the higher powers are for inspection.
Are the lenses glass?
No, shatterproof acrylic - lighter and safer, though it scratches more easily than glass.
How do I clean the lenses?
A soft cloth and water. Avoid solvents and alcohol, which craze acrylic.
Fast Australian Shipping

Measurements are approximate. Screen colours vary between devices. Never look at the sun or any bright light source through a magnifying lens, and do not leave the visor where sunlight can focus through it onto a flammable surface. Keep batteries away from children.
