Description

This glasses strap is a 65cm nylon cord with rubber loops at each end that slip over the arms of reading glasses, sunglasses or prescription frames, in red, blue or light blue for $4.99. The cord is about 0.3cm thick, so it holds without digging in.

Glasses do not usually get broken, they get lost. A child takes them off during sport, puts them down on a bench and walks away, and by the end of term the family is on its third pair. The same thing happens to adults with sunglasses on a boat or a bike. A cord does not stop anyone taking their glasses off, it just means the glasses end up hanging on their chest instead of on the ground.

What's in the Box

1 x Nylon glasses cord, 65cm, in your chosen colour

Why a Cord Is Worth $4.99

  • Cheaper than one replacement lens - the entire argument for a glasses strap is arithmetic, and it is not close.
  • Rubber loops, not clips - the loops stretch over the arm of the frame, so there is nothing to snap off and nothing to scratch the temple.
  • 65cm classic length - long enough for the glasses to sit comfortably on the chest, short enough not to swing about during sport.
  • Nylon cord - a soft round cord rather than a chain, which is what makes it wearable by a child all day.
  • Three colours - red, blue or light blue, so a child can tell theirs apart from someone else's in a classroom.

How Do You Attach a Glasses Strap?

Stretch the rubber loop over the end of the arm and slide it along towards the hinge until it sits snugly. Repeat on the other side. There is nothing to screw, clip or glue, and the loops come off the same way if you want to move the cord to a different pair.

Will This Strap Fit My Child's School Glasses?

The rubber loops stretch, which is what lets one cord fit a range of frames rather than one specific model. They are designed for standard eyeglass temples, so most children's prescription frames and sunglasses are fine. Very thick or unusually shaped arms are the exception worth checking.

Is a Cord or a Chain Better for Kids?

For children a nylon cord is generally the more practical choice. It is lighter, it does not catch in hair, it does not rattle, and it costs little enough that losing one is not an event. Chains tend to suit adults who want the glasses cord to read as an accessory rather than a piece of equipment.

Who Buys These

Parents of school age children who have just been prescribed glasses and are bracing for the first pair to disappear, adults who wear readers and put them down constantly, and anyone who takes sunglasses onto a boat, a bike or a worksite where dropping them means losing them. Teachers and sports coaches buy them in multiples for the same reason.

Pair It With

A cord is usually bought alongside the rest of a school or summer kit. Our Health & Beauty range covers personal care and vision accessories, Kid's Supplies has the school bits, and Summer is where the hats and outdoor gear live for the same trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the cord?
Approximately 65cm.

How thick is it?
Approximately 0.3cm, or 0.12 of an inch.

Does it fit adult frames too?
Yes. The rubber loops stretch to suit standard eyeglass temples on both adult and children's frames.

Will it scratch my glasses?
The loops are rubber and sit on the arm of the frame rather than gripping the lens, so there is nothing hard against the optics.

Can I use it for sport?
Yes. It is commonly used for ball sports, outdoor activity and travel, which is where glasses are most often lost.

Which colours are available?
Red, blue and light blue. Shades can look slightly different between screens.

Do you ship Australia wide?
Yes, including regional and remote addresses.

Fast Australian Shipping

We dispatch from Australia, so this cord reaches Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin quickly, and we post to regional and remote addresses as well. Orders placed on a business day are picked the same day wherever stock allows, which is handy at the start of a school term.

Product photography is indicative. Colours may vary slightly between screens and the item in hand, and hand measured dimensions carry a small tolerance.
