Description

These Tyre Deflators are a set of four solid brass automatic deflators priced at $39.99. You preset the pressure you want between 6 and 30 PSI in 3 PSI increments, screw one onto each Schrader valve, and they release air and stop by themselves at the set pressure. No tools, no gauge in hand, no crouching at each wheel.

Airing down four tyres by pressing a valve core and checking with a gauge takes most of ten minutes and rarely produces four matching pressures. Four automatic deflators do all four at once while you sort the recovery gear, and they stop at the same figure on every wheel.

Specifications

Quantity 4 deflators
Material Solid brass
Pressure range Adjustable 6 to 30 PSI, in 3 PSI increments
Dimensions 40 x 15mm

Why Four Rather Than One

  • All four wheels at once - the whole job runs unattended in the time one tyre would take
  • Matched pressures - every wheel stops at the same figure, which is what handling depends on
  • Solid brass - does not corrode sitting in a wet recovery bag between trips
  • Hand fitted - no tools to lose beside a track at dusk
  • Preset once - set them at home and they are ready every trip

How Do Automatic Deflators Save Time?

They parallelise the job. Screwing one onto each valve starts all four tyres deflating simultaneously, and each stops itself at the preset pressure, so the total time is roughly the time one tyre takes rather than four times that. Just as usefully, they remove the guesswork - manual deflation means press, check, press, overshoot, reinflate, and the four tyres end up within a few PSI of each other rather than matched.

What Pressure Should You Run Off Road?

It depends entirely on the surface, the vehicle and the load, so treat any single number with suspicion. As a broad guide, sand generally calls for much lower pressures than gravel, and corrugated dirt roads sit somewhere between road pressure and sand pressure. Going too low risks rolling a tyre off the bead, especially when turning. Check your vehicle handbook and any advice specific to the terrain you are heading into, and remember that lower pressures mean lower safe speeds - reinflate before returning to the bitumen.

Do You Still Need a Gauge?

Yes, and do not skip this. The deflators stop at their preset figure, but that setting should be verified against an accurate gauge rather than trusted from the markings alone, and you will need a gauge again when you reinflate. A compressor and a gauge are the other two thirds of this job - deflators only handle the letting-out half. Check the pressures with a gauge the first time you use a new set so you know what the settings actually correspond to.

Buyers are four-wheel drivers airing down for sand, gravel and beach driving, and campers and tourers heading onto unsealed roads.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many do I get?
Four - one per wheel.

What pressures can I set?
6 to 30 PSI, in 3 PSI steps.

Will they fit my valves?
They fit any standard Schrader valve stem, which is what almost all cars and 4WDs use.

Do they inflate as well?
No, deflation only. You need a compressor to air back up.

Is a gauge included?
No. Verify the settings with your own gauge.

Do I need tools to fit them?
No, they screw on by hand.

Will they corrode?
Solid brass resists corrosion well, which is why they suit a damp recovery bag.

Fast Australian Shipping

Dispatched from Australia to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin, with regional and remote addresses served through the standard Australia Post network.

Measurements are approximate. Screen colours vary between devices. SAFETY: verify deflator settings against an accurate gauge before relying on them. Running under-inflated tyres reduces handling and increases the risk of unseating a tyre from the rim - reduce speed accordingly and reinflate to the manufacturer's specified pressure before returning to sealed roads. Follow your vehicle handbook.
