Most backyards do not offer four convenient anchor points at the right heights. A triangle needs only three, which means a house wall, a fence post and a single new pole will often do the whole job - and because three points always define a plane, a triangle sits flat and tensions evenly without the twist that catches people out on four cornered sails. Is a Triangle or a Rectangle Better for a Backyard?
It depends on your anchor points more than your taste. A rectangle gives more shade per metre of fabric and suits a deck or driveway with four usable fixing points at sensible heights. A triangle gives less area for its span but needs one fewer anchor, tensions more predictably, and copes better with a yard where the available fixing points are scattered. If you have a house wall on one side and one tree or post on the other, a triangle will fit and a rectangle probably will not.
How High Should Each Corner Be Mounted?
Not all at the same height. Mounting the three corners at different heights builds a slope into the sail, which sheds water and leaves and stops the fabric pooling in the middle. A common approach is one high corner and two lower ones, with at least a 300 to 500mm difference between the highest and lowest. Keep the lowest corner well above head height over a walkway, and remember that tensioning pulls the corners slightly lower than where you fixed them.
Can You Join Two Triangles Together for More Cover?
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons people choose triangles. Two 5m triangles arranged point to point, or overlapping at slightly different heights, cover a much larger and more usefully shaped area than either does alone, and they can share an anchor point where they meet. Stagger the heights rather than mounting them level - overlapping at the same height creates a flat valley where water and leaves collect.

No, the sail only. Turnbuckles, shackles, ropes and anchors are sold separately and should be sized for your installation.
Is it the same fabric as the rectangle sail?
Yes - the same sand coloured 180GSM knitted HDPE, the same 95% UV block and the same steel rings. Only the shape and size differ.
Does it keep rain off?
No. Knitted shade fabric deliberately lets air and water through. For rain cover you need a solid awning.
Is it a true equilateral triangle?
Yes, 5 metres on all three sides as supplied by the manufacturer.
How far apart should the anchors be?
Slightly more than 5m apart, to leave 150 to 300mm at each corner for hardware.
What does 180GSM mean?
Grams per square metre - a fabric density. The manufacturer's sheet labels it "Net weight", which is incorrect.
